Cobb to focus on receiver

October 19th, 2008 by chipcosby | No Comments | Filed in Randall Cobb

UK Coach Rich Brooks said that freshman Randall Cobb will continue to see action at quarterback and receiver but will focus more on receiver as the Wildcats get prepared for Saturday’s game at No. 5 Florida.

“He may see a series or two at quarterback as we move forward, but we’ll focus him more at receiver,” Brooks said during his Sunday teleconference.

Cobb caught five passes for 73 yards against Arkansas including a pair of touchdown catches in the final four minutes that allowed the Cats to get the come-from-behind win. Sophomore Mike Hartline, who threw for 239 yards and three TD’s, will remain the starter.

No Specific Plan for Cobb at QB

Kentucky Coach Rich Brooks said Tuesday at his weekly news conference that there’s no specific plan or timetable to use freshman Randall Cobb at quarterback. Cobb is expected to see time at wide receiver and as a punt returner, but Brooks was vague about how much action he’ll see behind starter Mike Hartline.

“We don’t have a plan to do anything at that position,” Brooks said. “If we feel like we need to shake something up, we might shake it up, but I don’t know when, if or how that will happen.”
