Drake has sports hernia surgery

University of Kentucky senior tight end T.C. Drake recently underwent sports hernia surgery and won’t be back to full speed for about six weeks, UK Coach Rich Brooks announced via Twitter. Drake started eight games at tight end last fall, catching 12 passes for 204 yards. He’s expected to battle seniors Ross Bogue and Maurice Grinter for the No. 1 spot once fall camp begins. Bogue ended the spring as the starting tight end.

Jarmon faces knee surgery, doubtful for Tennessee

University of Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday in order to correct a cartilage tear in his right knee and is doubtful for UK’s regular-season finale against Tennessee on Dec. 29, Coach Rich Brooks announced on Monday.
Jarmon suffered the injury in Saturday’s 31-24 loss to Vanderbilt.
Jarmon has 33 tackles this season, including nine tackles for loss and 3.5 quarterback sacks, along with five pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

McClinton, Lumpkin to miss Tennessee game

Kentucky Coach Rich Brooks said that the Wildcats will be without two defensive regulars for the Tennessee game on Nov. 29. Starting free safety Marcus McClinton is out with a severe laceration on his quadriceps, while backup defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin will miss the game with a high ankle sprain. UK has an open date this week, with the junior varsity playing against Fork Union Military Academy Monday at noon at Commonwealth Stadium

Lindley expected to play

UK junior cornerback Trevard Lindley made it through practice without major problems on Tuesday and is expected to be available for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt. Senior defensive tackle Myron Pryor missed practice after re-aggravating a high ankle sprain against Georgia and is listed as questionable to doubtful. Junior middle linebacker Micah Johnson, who became ill before the Georgia game, could not finish practice.

Injury update

Right tackle Justin Jeffries will start Saturday after missing the past four games with a knee injury. Middle linebacker Micah Johnson (ankle), tight end Maurice Grinter (ankle), and free safety Marcus McClinton (knee) will also play. Defensive tackle Myron Pryor, who is nursing a high ankle sprain, will make the trip and should be available for duty but UK Coach Rich Brooks isn’t sure how much he’ll be able to play.

Pryor practices

Senior defensive tackle Myron Pryor (high ankle sprain) practiced Tuesday but Brooks said it was still too early to tell if Pryor would be available against Mississippi State. Junior tight end Maurice Grinter (ankle) and right tackle Justin Jeffries (knee) also practiced Tuesday.

Pryor, Johnson doubtful for MSU

Defensive tackle Myron Pryor and middle linebacker Micah Johnson are both doubtful for the Mississippi State game with high ankle sprains. Pryor suffered the injury against Arkansas and missed the Florida game. Johnson originally injured his ankle against Middle Tennessee and missed two games. He re-aggravated the injury against Florida.

UK Coach Rich Brooks listed tight end Maurice Grinter (ankle), right tackle Justin Jeffries (knee), and free safety Marcus McClinton (knee) as questionable.

Johnson expected to play

University of Kentucky middle linebacker Micah Johnson practiced on Wednesday and should be available to play Saturday at No. 5 Florida, Coach Rich Brooks said. Starting weakside linebacker Braxton Kelley still questionable to doubtful. Strongside linebacker Johnny Williams and cornerback David Jones also practiced, and Brooks said he’ll see how they feel on Thursday before making a decision on their availablity. Ditto for free safety Marcus McClinton, who participated in half of practice for the second straight day.

Brooks said there’s also no decision yet on right tackle Justin Jeffries, who’s recovering from a knee injury.

Ford to return, Lanxter likely out

A day after learning that its top receiver, Dicky Lyons, is done for the season, the Kentucky offense looks like it will get a boost with the return of junior DeMoreo Ford. Ford suffered a shoulder injury making a 48-yard touchdown catch against Alabama and had been listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against Arkansas. But UK Coach Rich Brooks said that Ford made it through Tuesday’s practice and will be ready for the game.

Brooks also said that sophomore Kyrus Lanxter is doubtful after straining his MCL in one-on-one drills Tuesday.

Beets should be ready to go

Senior right guard Jess Beets made it through practice this week without any flareups and should be in the starting lineup Saturday against South Carolina. Beets, who has started all five games this season, was diagnosed with a sprained knee. Beets’ backup, redshirt freshman Stuart Hines, is out indefinitely with torn cartilage in his knee.  Also, UK Coach Rich Brooks said that right tackle Justin Jeffries will not need surgery on his injured knee and could begin working out in 2-3 weeks.
