Cats sign junior college defensive lineman

Junior college defensive lineman Melvin Lewis announced Thursday that he has signed with Kentucky for the 2013 football season.

Lewis, a 6-foot-4, 320-pound tackle, has played the last two seasons for Fullerton Community College (Calif.). In 11 games as a sophomore, he had 41 tackles, 3.5 sacks and six tackles for loss.

Lewis, a native of Compton, Calif., is not rated by any of the major recruiting services. He also received late offers from Miami (Fla.) and Washington. He will have two years of eligibility at UK.

Kentucky now has 23 signees for the class of 2013.
